Ten automatic qualifiers to the State Track and Field Meet helped the Knoxville boy’s track and field squad to another dominating win and a class 3A District championship last night in Grinnell. After winning the conference last week by 73 points the Panthers took control early and often and won the District by 57 points, outdistancing runner-up Pella 182-127. The Panthers automatic qualifiers are Colton Spaur in the 200, Alex Edwards in the 400 and 800, Jamie VanderVeer in the 1600, Timothy Shepherd in the 3200, Luke Moore in the high jump, Derek Seddon in the discus, plus the four-by-200, 800, and distance medley.

According to Assistant Coach Joe Cunningham the Panthers could have as many as 16 of the 18 events qualify after all of the times have been posted in the state. Meanwhile, Pella had one event to automatically qualify that was Chris Brogden in the 100. The Little Dutch has a lot of runner up finishes which may push their total up when all meets have become official.
