Playing in their fourth meet this week, the Pella girls golf team found itself relying upon the score of their No. 5 golfer to defeat Ottumwa on the Bulldogs’ home course. Both teams battled cool and rainy conditions to shoot a 195 at the Ottumwa Country Club, as Pella’s Shelby Williams shot a 45 to lead the Lady Dutch for the sixth consecutive meet.
Head Coach Bob Fessler says he’s been very impressed by the improvements Williams has made in the latter part of the season.
“She’s really stepped it up. She’s dropped her scoring average from the first half of the season to this part of the season by about five shots per nine holes – which is almost unheard of,” said Fessler. “She’s really led the way for us.”
The Pella girls golf team finishes the regular season with an overall record of 26-16 and will take today off before preparing for Monday’s District meet in Norwalk.
