After a narrow win in the Preliminary Substate round, the Pella boys tennis team has another tough task ahead of them today in the Class 1-A Substate Semifinals. The Little Dutch edged out Centerville 5-4 on Tuesday of this past week to earn a date with perennial contender Maharishi.
Adding to the storyline will be the effectiveness of No. 2 player Brannon Johnson, should he be available to play. Johnson injured his shoulder earlier in the tournament and Pella’s lower seeds each moved up one slot, providing the rally the Little Dutch needed to defeat the Big Red.
Pella’s Class 1-A Substate Semifinal contest with Maharishi will begin shortly after 8:30 a.m. this morning in Fairfield. The winner will face either Grinnell or Mount Pleasant in the Finals.
