The season came to an unceremonious end Monday night for the Pella Christian boys soccer team, as the Eagles were stunned 5-0 by West Central Valley in the opening round of the Class 1-A Substate Tournament.
West Central Valley jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the first half, but high intensity on the offensive and defensive ends seemed like it would be enough to pull Pella Christian back into the game.  However, a third goal by the Wildcats proved to be the backbreaker, and the Eagles never threatened for the remainder of the contest.
Pella Christian boys Head Coach Joshua Visser said he hopes the bitter defeat can serve as motivation for the returning players for next season, as the Eagles will only lose two seniors to graduation.  West Central Valley advances to play Creston on Wednesday.
