Pleasantville Native and University of Missouri Softball Pitching Ace Chelsea Thomas has been named one of ten finalists for the U-S-A Softball Collegiate Player of the Year. The ten finalists will be pared down to three at the Women’s College World Series in Oklahoma City later this month. The U-S-A Softball Collegiate Player of the Year is the highest award a division one softball player can get…which is equivalent to the Heisman Trophy. Thomas will lead Missouri into the N-C-A-A softball playoffs this week as the Tigers secured an automatic bid by winning the outright Big 12 Championship over the weekend. Missouri has drawn the overall fifth seed in the tournament and will host a regional. The Tigers first round opponent is Illinois State Friday evening, DePaul and Indiana are the other teams in the Columbia Regional.
