Even though there was no serious damage reported in Pella following Sunday evening’s severe weather, it should serve as a reminder to have a plan in place in case severe weather does cause property damage.
Dennis Van Gorp with Van Gorp Insurers says the most important thing you can do is document the possessions in your home for insurance purposes.
He says a good way to document those things is to use a video camera and film inside cabinets, closets, garages, workshops and basements and keep that tape in a deposit box in the event those items are lost or destroyed.
Van Gorp added that it’s important to understand what your policy covers beforehand, as many people wait until after an event to see what’s covered and what isn’t.
