Local governments all over the country are looking for ways to trim costs and save money, and Pella is no different.
Back in 2008, the Pella Police Department purchased a Hybrid Sport Utility Vehicle in the hopes that it would help save the department on fuel costs while providing the same service as a traditional cruiser.
Police Chief Michael Marcinkowski says they’ve been very pleased with the performance of the vehicle since then.
He says the Escape Hybrid came at a cost premium of $5,000 over the standard patrol cars, but that cost was made up in the first year in fuel savings alone.
He says the Escape gets nearly twice as many miles per gallon compared to other patrol cars in the fleet.
