An energy company from Minnesota is working on plans for a hydroelectric power plant at Lake Red Rock.
Nelson Energy of Golden Valley, Minnesota is spearheading the project. Robert Larson of Nelson Energy tells KNIA/KRLS News the company has been in the planning stages since 2005.
In April, a license was issued by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.
Larson says an optimistic timeline would see construction beginning by 2013 and the facility could be online as early as 2015 if designs and transmission plans are approved by the US Army Corps of Engineers.
He says the plant would be able to generate in excess of 30 megawatts. The estimated cost is between $120 million and $200 million.
