Out With The Pyramid, In With MyPlate


The US Department of Agriculture has recently updated its nutritional guidelines and rolled out new infographics to go along with them.

Replacing the familiar nutritional pyramid is the new My Plate food guide [1]. Pella Regional Health Center nutritionist Dianne Pettit says the new guide is intended to show people what a healthy meal should look like on your plate, a concept lacking in the old pyramid.

She says the new guidelines emphasize lots of fresh fruits and vegetables which should take up half the plate, whole grains should take up a little over a quarter of the plate, and lean protein and a little dairy round out a balanced meal.
