Two huge innings helped Pella defeat Pella Christian 14-9 in the teams’ final meeting of the season at Pella Christian last night in a game heard live on 92.1 KRLS.
The Little Dutch started red hot scoring seven runs in the first inning off six hits and two Eagle errors to jump on top 7-0 before the Eagles even had the chance to bat. Strong pitching from sophomore Jacob Gleason and solid defense limited Pella Christian to just one base runner through the first three innings. Pella then added four more runs in the fourth inning on three hits and a couple Eagle miscues.
Pella Christian finally found some offense in the bottom of the fourth putting together back to back hits to score a run and would add another in the fifth to make it an 11-2 game. Pella responded in the top of the sixth adding three more runs off four hits and appeared to be in control however the Eagles didn’t go down easy rallying for six runs in the bottom of the inning off three hits and three Pella errors. The Eagle defense did their job holding Pella off the scoreboard in the top of the seventh and with the score 14-8 the Eagles had one final chance loading the bases with one out but could only manage one run.
Gleason got the win throwing 5 2/3 innings allowing eight hits and four earned runs while walking four and striking out nine while Zach Zylstra took the loss for Pella Christian.
At the plate Pella pounded out 17 hits led by Daniel Langenfeld who was 3-4 with 3 RBI, Paul Anderson went 3-5 with two doubles and 2 RBI, Gleason was 2-4 with 2 RBI and Schyler Kane was 2-4 with 3 RBI. Kyle De Ronde and Will Vande Voort led Pella Christian each going 2-4 with 3 RBI as the Eagles tallied nine hits. Pella improved to 13-13 overall and 10-8 in the LHC while Pella Christian fell to 19-11 and 11-5 in LHC play.
