The Pella baseball team put all of the elements together Wednesday night for a dominating sweep of South Tama – 10-0, 14-3.

The Little Dutch only needed five innings to put away the Trojans in the opener, with Nick Gerdes leading the charge out of the batter’s box with a 3-for-3 showing that included 3 RBIs.  Ryan Lanke also had 3 RBIs in the first game, as he went 2-for-2 with a walk.

That offense helped back up a gem of a game for Schyler Kane on the pitcher’s mound, as he utilized an overpowering fastball to fan eight South Tama batters and gave up just one walk in a two-hit shut-out.

Pella stayed hot in the nightcap, opening the game with back-to-back triples on their way to a seven-run first inning.  Gerdes and Chris Bandstra each batted 2-for-3 at the plate with two runs scored, while Brett Kingery and Alan Pfadenhauer were both 1-for-2 with an RBI and a walk.

Little Dutch pitcher Jacob Gleason helped his cause by knocking in three runs, while striking out eight Trojan batters and giving up six hits in the win.

The Pella baseball team is now 6-6 overall and 4-2 in the Little Hawkeye Conference, entering a road game Friday at Grinnell.
