A rough week ended with some sweet redemption for the Pella baseball team, as the Little Dutch earned a well-played split with Norwalk, 3-2, 1-4 on Friday night in Pella.

The Little Dutch out-hit the Warriors 7-4 in game one and capitalized on a very uncharacteristic three errors by Norwalk, while only committing one miscue themselves.

Down 2-1 entering the bottom of the sixth inning, Pella rallied to pick up a pair of runs, then brought Brett Kingery to the mound in the seventh frame to earn the save. Starting pitcher Chris Bandstra was incredibly efficient for the Dutch, striking out two batters and walking two in less than 90 pitches to earn the win in six innings of work.

Bandstra also helped his cause by going 2-for-3 at the plate and scoring two of Pella’s three runs. Paul Anderson was also 2-for-3 at the plate with a double, but it was Daniel Langenfeld’s 2-for-3, two RBI, one-run effort that Head Coach Aaron Reasland said was the difference-maker in the opener.

Despite falling 4-1 in the nightcap, Pella still closed the night in fine fashion against the Warriors. Ryan Lanke was 2-of-3 at the plate with an RBI, while Langenfeld added another strong offensive showing, going 1-for-1 with a walk and a sacrifice. Trevor Wood was 1-for-4 and scored Pella’s only run.

On the mound, Schyler Kane took the loss, throwing a complete-game seven-hitter. Of Norwalk’s four runs, only two were earned, while Kane struck out one and walked three.

The Pella baseball team is now 7-11 overall and 5-6 in the Little Hawkeye Conference, with Newton up next on the schedule.
