A night after a disappointing loss to Newton, the Pella softball team made a statement on Tuesday night, defeating Chariton 5-3.  The Lady Dutch rattled the No. 2-ranked team in Class 3-A for nine hits, while pitcher Bri Arkema scattered seven hits to get the win over the Chargers.
Pella’s Allie DeMeulenaere led the way at the plate with a 2-for-2 performance, Whitney Williams had a triple and two RBIs, and Mackenzie Anthony knocked in two crucial sacrifice RBIs.  Arkema was impressive in the pitcher’s circle, striking out seven and walking only two to earn the complete game win.
The Pella softball team is 11-5 overall and 7-2 in the Little Hawkeye Conference, entering an important game Wednesday evening at home against Oskaloosa.
