An early lead slowly trickled away for the Pella baseball team on Wednesday night, as the Little Dutch fell 5-3 to conference foe Norwalk.
Pella opened the game by scoring a pair of runs in the opening inning and held a 2-1 advantage entering the second frame.  The Warriors found consistency on offense, though, putting up one run in each of the game’s next four innings to hold a 5-2 advantage through the fifth.  Pella High added one more run, but their rally came up short as they were handed their second defeat of the season.
Schyler Kane and Brett Kingery each went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead the Pella offense.  Pitcher Jacob Gleason was credited with the loss, but struck out five batters in four innings of work for the Little Dutch; while Kane came in to throw two innings, retiring the side both times and striking out three Norwalk batters.
The Pella baseball team is now 0-2 and will look for their first win of the season tonight when they host Chariton.
