With summer gearing up, more people are spending their time on the water. It’s important to remember boating safety tips. Marion County Sheriff Ron Goemaat says that the most common problem the Sheriff’s Office encounters is disabled boats. He says to make sure your boat is in good operation order and full of gas, especially if you plan to be out for a long period of time. He also says to have a cell phone with you so you can contact someone if your boat does stop working, and to have a life jacket for each individual on board. Boaters should be reminded that the new law that requires anyone operating a boat to be under .08 blood alcohol content goes into effect July 1.
