Two towering home runs by Ashley Van Kooten was the only offense that Pella Christian would need, as they downed Newton 2-0 in Pella Wednesday night.  The two solo shots give Van Kooten four home runs in two days, catapulting her to the top of the leader board in the conference and into a tie for second place in all of Class 2-A.
Meanwhile Lady Eagles pitcher Paige Blom was deadly efficient in the circle, allowing just three hits and striking out four Cardinal batters, while giving up only one walk.  Blom entered the game averaging nearly 160 pitches per game in the previous several contests, but needed only 98 pitches to put Newton away.
The Pella Christian softball team is now 8-3 overall and 4-1 in conference play with a home game against Lynnville-Sully on the docket for Thursday night.
