Eight volunteers from Vermeer recently returned from a disaster recovery trip to Joplin, Missouri. The group went down for four days late last week, armed with chainsaws, a skid steer and other heavy equipment to assist in the clean up efforts. Team leader Terry Butler says there is still lots of work left to do as far as moving the massive piles of debris left in the wake of the F-5 tornadoes. He says even though he’s been part of groups assisting in cleanups all over the region, coming to a scene like that is always a surprise and a reminder of how temporary things can be.
