The holiday weekend gets started Friday with area Independence Day celebrations. Leighton will have events throughout the day along with an evening parade at 7:30 and fireworks at 10 pm.

Pella, Pleasantville and Bussey all have 4th of July activities planned for next Monday. City, County and State offices will be closed on Monday in observance of the holiday.
