A handful of past and present members of the Central College men’s golf team had a successful outing this past weekend. Current team members Brent Goodenow, Justin Livingston and Brent Messmore each qualified for the Iowa Ameteur that will be held July 25th through the 27th at the Glen Oaks Country Club in West Des Moines.

Additionally, two Central alumni will be in the field next week as 1983 graduate Ron Peterson and 1999 grad Justin Schulte also qualified for the tournament.

Four former Central golfers also competed at the Iowa PGA Professional Championship Monday and Tuesday at the par-71 Arsenal Island Golf Course in Rock Island, Illinois.

Darin Fisher (’97), head professional at The Preserve on Rathbun Lake, tied for third at 68-72-69—209. John Bermel (’84), professional at Pheasant Ridge Golf Course in Cedar Falls and the men’s golf coach at the University of Northern Iowa, tied for fifth at 71-65-75—211. Bermel’s second-round 65 was the lowest round of the tournament.

Brad Wuhs (’97), a Bridgestone Golf representative, was 27th at 76-76-73—225 and Dick Specht (’88), professional at Timberline Golf Course in Peosta, tied for 43rd at 79-79-75—233.
