The Goff Mine was the site of a large crowd for a mine reclamation field day on Tuesday morning. The mine reclamation project helps clean up land that was used for mining and makes it usable for other purposes. Randy Cooney, with the State of Iowa Division of Soil Conservation, says that they wanted to show the public how much the site has transformed since they began working on it over a year ago. Todd Coffelt, also with the Iowa Division of Soil Conservation, says that this project is important because there are still 12,000 acres of land in Iowa still disturbed by prior mine usage.
