The recent heat wave set new peak usage records at Mid-American Energy. Tina Potthoff, a spokesperson at Mid-American, says that they were using 4700 megawatts earlier this week, breaking last summer’s record of 4500 megawatts.

Potthoff says that the lack of a cool-down at night meant they were starting the morning with very high usage already. That was the main contributor to the record. She adds that they can serve a maximum of 7000 megawatts, so they still have plenty of room for growth.
