Monday marks the 235th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, and several area communities have events and activities planned to celebrate the day.

Leighton kicked off the weekend with a parade and fireworks show at dusk on Friday.

Bussey will have a parade at 10 am on Independence Day, while Pleasantville has a parade planned for 11 am that day as well. Both Pleasantville and Bussey will have a fireworks show at dusk.

Activities are planned throughout the day in Pella as well with fishing at 9:30 at Caldwell Park, the parade downtown at 2:30, the city band will perform at Central Park at 7 and fireworks at dusk from Madison Elementary.

The KNIA/KRLS Big and Little Red Radios will be on hand for all the festivities to play music and deliver live updates throughout the day.
