Knoxville Native Among Central Golfers Picked for National Scholar Team

Central College’s Molli O’Brien and Kaurie Kincaid have been selected to the National Golf Coaches Association Division III All-America Scholar team.

O’Brien graduated this past fall with a 3.8 GPA as an elementary education major and compiled a 92.2 average score this past golf season on her way to being named the “Most Improved Player” award for the Dutch.

Kincaid – a junior from Knoxville – carried a 3.51 GPA as a mathematics major and compiled an 88.6 stroke average on the course. She placed eighth in the 2010 league tournament, earning all-conference honors, and was also an academic all-league pick. Kincaid received the squad’s Maurine Timmer MVP Award this past season.

To qualify for the honor, a player must maintain a 3.5 or better cumulative grade point average (4.0 scale), compete in 66 percent of the team’s competitive rounds and have a scoring average of 95.0 or lower.

Central’s women’s golfers have now received All-America Scholars recognition five times. Kim Doyle was cited in 1986, Shannon Hoekstra in 2000 and Courtney Brooks in 2001.
