Lady Eagles’ Weaver Provides Spark to Ignite PC’s Offense

After a few concerning losses in the previous week, the Pella Christian softball team closed out the regular season on with a pair of statement wins over Pella and Norwalk. A key in the offensive success for the Lady Eagles has been lead-off batter Shelby Weaver, whose speed, decision-making, and offensive versatility has given opposing teams headaches throughout the season.
Pella Christian Head Coach Nate Van Wyk says Weaver has been a leader both vocally and by example, and disrupts the defense of their opponents.
“Shelbs is a difference maker. She hits lead-off for us – she can bunt, she can slap [hit], she can stand in there and swing – and every time she gets on she’s a threat to steal a base; and she does all of that stuff for us,” said Van Wyk.
“She [Weaver] has taken care of everything as far as leading her team from the lead-off spot – emotionally, physically by getting on base, and then just disrupting the other team as well by stealing bases, by pushing things a little bit, and by setting the table for our two, three and four hitters to drive her in.”
Pella Christian finished the regular season with a 17-7 overall record and a 10-4 mark in the Little Hawkeye Conference. They are off until Thursday when they’ll face PCM in the Class 2-A Regional Softball Tournament.
