They may have only tallied two hits, but the Pella baseball team still found a way to generate runs on the way to an unlikely 4-3 win over Grinnell Monday night. The growing rivalry saw the Tigers put up three more hits than the Little Dutch, but Pella was able to capitalize on four errors by Grinnell – along with discipline at the plate and on the base paths – to secure the victory.

Trailing 2-0 in the fourth inning, Pella loaded the bases with one out, when a series of miscues by Grinnell allowed the Dutch to put up all four of their runs. The Tigers added one more score in the bottom of the fourth, and from their, pitcher Schyler Kane and the rest of the Pella defense held Grinnell at bay.

Kane was particularly clutch in the final inning, when he retired the side in just five pitches to earn the win. Kane finished the night with four strikeouts and five walks.

Pella’s two hits came courtesy of Trevor Wood and Daniel Langenfeld, with Langenfeld finishing his night 1-for-2 at the plate with an RBI and a walk.

The Pella baseball team is now 18-14 overall and finishes the Little Hawkeye Conference schedule with a 13-8 mark. They’ll host Centerville Tuesday night in a non-conference game for Senior Night to close the regular season.
