Farmers who may have lost cattle due to the recent heat wave may be eligible for the Farm Service Agency’s Livestock Indemnity Program. Angie Vos, the Marion County FSA Director, says livestock losses should be reported to the Marion County FSA Office within 30 days of the death. Adequate documentation, preferably from a vet, must prove the death of the livestock occurred as a direct result of a weather event. A recent report from the Iowa Cattlemen’s Association says that around 4000 cattle have died in Iowa as a result of the recent heat wave.
