Tom Bouwkamp allowed only three runs and eight different players had at least one hit in the opener as Pella Christian split a Varsity doubleheader 6-3, 4-8 at Norwalk on Friday night.

The Eagles combined for eleven hits in the first game, led by Spencer Fynaardt, who was 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored. Marcus Van Zee and Will Vande Voort each went 2-for-4 with a run scored in the win. The offensive support helped Tom Bouwkamp ride a nine-hit, two-strikeout performance to the complete game victory.

The Warriors got an early jump on Pella Christian in the second game and never let the Eagles climb back in on the way to an 8-4 final score. Zach Zylstra carried the hot bat in the nightcap, going 3-for-4 at the plate with two doubles, three RBIs, a run scored – and also stole a base – while Kyle De Ronde took the loss on the pitcher’s mound.

The split leaves the Pella Christian baseball team at 20-12 overall and at 13-6 in the Little Hawkeye Conference. The Eagles are off for the July 4th holiday, but return with three straight games next week, starting Tuesday against Newton.
