Pella Christian’s Kyle Nikkel played in the annual Iowa Shrine Bowl in Ames last Saturday, helping the South squad to a 17-14 win over their counterparts from the North.
In an interview this with KNIA/KRLS Sports, Nikkel said that as much as he enjoyed the game, the opportunity to spend a day with around twenty children from the Shriners Hospital for Children was one of his best memories of the week.
“It touched so many of the guys, and it changed our views on the whole aspect of the thing and why we are actually playing the game and raising money for the children,” said Nikkel. “I’m going to take away what the kids really taught us about life, and how we can impact others by just helping people out, even if we don’t know them.”
Kyle Nikkel graduated from Pella Christian High School this past spring, and will be attending Morningside College this fall, where he will continue his football career.
