The Pella baseball team could have used a few fireworks of their own the day after Independence Day, as the Little Dutch dropped a 3-0 non-conference contest at home Tuesday night against Washington. Both teams had five hits apiece, and the Little Dutch committed just one error, but the Demons were able to take advantage of free passes to first base to score two unearned runs. Pella pitcher Jacob Gleason took the loss, throwing all seven innings and giving up four walks and a hit-by-pitch, while striking out ten Washington batters. At the plate, Schyler Kane accounted for nearly half of the hits for the Little Dutch, going 2-for-3 with a pair of singles. The loss drops the Pella baseball team to 16-14 overall, with the Little Dutch traveling to Fairfield Wednesday night for another non-conference match-up.
