The 2011 season was an explosive one offensively for Pella Christian’s Ashley Van Kooten. The senior shortstop provided a great deal of pop in the middle of the line-up for the Lady Eagles, slugging thirteen extra base hits – including a team-best six home runs – and leading the team in RBIs with sixteen. Of those six round-trippers, Van Kooten blasted four of them in a two-game stretch to give Pella Christian a much-needed boost midway through the season.
Just as impressive is that she was able to hit with power while still batting .361 and striking out only four times. Van Kooten was one of four seniors for the Pella Christian softball team that led the squad to a 17-8 mark this past season and a second-place finish in the Little Hawkeye Conference; with a record of 10-4.
