Cross Country is not a sport for the faint of heart. It takes an immense amount of discipline, perseverance and drive to compete in a sport whose practices and competitions consist only of running – and lots of it.
Yet despite the physical demands its athletes endure, the Pella Cross Country program is again loaded with scores of girls and boys eager to run their hearts out in the pursuit of team and personal accomplishments.
Little Dutch head Coach Doug Cutler says he believes the cross country program at Pella High continues to see large numbers because young people like the opportunity to rise to the occasion and meet or exceed a challenge.
Cutler adds that no limitation on the number of athletes that can participate is also a draw, and jokes that cross country is one of the few sports where lesser ability actually earns an athlete more time on the playing field.
