The announcement by Missouri River Energy Services to construct a hydroelectric plant at Lake Red Rock is a positive step for reliability in the region.

Pella City Administrator Mike Nardini says regulations set to go into effect next year would have been difficult to meet given the age of the coal plant, and membership in the Missouri River Co-op helps spread the cost of meeting any new standards.

He adds that another benefit of the partnership is the ability of Missouri River to address future renewable energy requirements.
