The Pella Christian football team is eager to start a new season as they travel to the Capitol city to face one of their longest-running opponents – Des Moines Christian. The Eagles have held the upper hand in the previous three meetings, but the Class 1A Lions continue to bring a physical brand of football to every contest.

Pella Christian head coach Rich Kacmarynski says avoiding early season mistakes will be one of the keys as to which team comes out on top.

“Turnover margin, I think, will be a key factor, as well as blown assignments,” says Kacmarynski. “With it being the first game, the team that makes the fewest number of mistakes, mentally, out there usually comes out on top. I also think condition will be a factor too.”

The Eagles claimed last year’s season-opener in Pella 28-20. You can hear the game broadcast live on 92.1 fm KRLS with Jamie Brockman and Nate Van Wyk calling the action from the field at Johnston High School. Pregame coverage begins at 7:00 p.m. tonight, with kickoff between Pella Christian and Des Moines Christian set for 7:30.
