For local student athletes who are preparing for college, the summer is quickly coming to a close, as the start of a new phase in their life – college – is fast approaching. If fall sports are in their plans, the transition is even closer.

In a recent interview with KNIA/KRLS Sports, Pella Christian graduate Kyle Nikkel said while he’s excited about the opportunity to play football at the next level, he’s also looking forward to the educational opportunities that lie ahead, as he lays the ground work for his future.

“I’m just really looking forward to the next chapter of life that I’m going in to, and the things that are going to come at me,” said Nikkel. “I’m really looking forward to getting in to the elementary education-type stuff and special education-type courses and the things that I really enjoy in life – not only just football – but academically; and putting hard work into the classroom so that ultimately it will pay off when it’s time to get a job.”

Kyle Nikkel will be playing football this fall at Morningside College, an NAIA school in Sioux City, Iowa. In his senior season at Pella Christian, Nikkel helped guide the Eagles to a school-best 9-2 overall record.
