Central College Receiver Nominated for Scholar-Athlete Honor

Jeremy Snead, a wide receiver on the Central College football team, is among 30 NCAA Division III nominees for the National Football Foundation National Scholar-Athlete Awards.

Snead carries a 3.595 grade point average as a biology major at Central while also excelling on the football field. He is a two-time first-team All-Iowa Conference selection and is the top receiver again this year for the Dutch.

Nominees must be in their last year of eligibility, have a GPA of at least 3.2, have outstanding football ability and demonstrate strong leadership and citizenship.

The NFF Awards Committee will select up to 16 recipients for an $18,000 postgraduate scholarship and those finalists will vie for the William V. Campbell Trophy as the nation’s top scholar-athlete.

Snead is one of a total of 127 finalists from all college football divisions. Also making the list are fellow Iowa Conference players Michael Zwiefel of Dubuque and Erik Krol from Cornell College.

The members of the 2011 National Scholar-Athlete Class will travel to New York City in December to be honored during the 54th NFF Annual Awards Dinner at the Waldorf-Astoria.
