Iowa’s season for hunting mourning doves begins today. The State Legislature passed a bill earlier this year establishing the season amid protest from animal rights and environmental groups.

Representative Jim Van Engelenhoven says he voted against the measure after hearing too many concerns from constituents about conservation.
