The largest meet in the state essentially turned into a dual meet for the Pella cross country teams, as both the girls and boys squads found themselves embroiled in tight competition with athletes from a singular squad.

Led by a first-place finish from Zach Buchheit, the Pella boys fended off Boone to win 28-31. Evan Jones took third place, with Tukker Bogaard and Michael Schemm claiming 6th and 7th, respectively, to fill out the top ten.

The Pella girls squad also put in an impressive showing, finishing in second behind Dallas Center-Grimes. Gabi Meirick finished in 2nd place to lead the Lady Dutch, with teammate Hannah Martin not far behind in 11th place.

The Little Dutch JV teams also continued to perform well, as both teams finished in 1st place.

Up next for the Pella cross country teams is a trip this weekend to the Capitol city to compete at the Des Moines Roosevelt meet on Saturday.
