In terms of statistics, the Pella Christian football team utterly dominated Van Meter in last Friday night’s 31-7 victory. That said, even dominating performances can feature areas of needed improvement. For the Eagles, penalties and a handful of offensive miscues were areas of the game that are being addressed this week in practice.

Pella Christian head coach Rich Kacmarynski said those mistakes cost them a significant amount of lost yardage in terms of field position.

“We had too many penalties – we had 13 penalties for 125 yards – and we also snapped the ball over our quarterback’s head three times and we lost probably 40 yards of field position on those plays,” said Kacmarynski. “So you’re roughly looking at 165 yards of lost field position with the penalties and the bad snaps. Those are just two things that we need to work on this week to clean up.”

Overall, though, Kacmarynski says he was very pleased with the team’s effort against the Bulldogs; which included two running backs with over 100 yards rushing, a defense that allowed just 71 net yards of offense, and a special teams unit that helped win the field position match-up.

Pella Christian begins Class 2A District 8 play on Friday with their toughest challenge yet, as they’ll take on last season’s co-District champion – Bondurant-Farrar – on the Bluejays’ home field.
