Buena Vista was the victim of a pair of well-played matches for the Central College women’s and men’s soccer teams yesterday, as the Dutch added Iowa Conference victories to their respective records.

The Central women’s team finally got the first-half offense it had been lacking in earlier matches – notching a pair of goals in the opening frame en route to a 3-1 win.

Defender Kelsey Schippers, a sophomore from Pella High, added an unassisted goal in the second half to ice the victory. The Dutch are now 9-3 overall and 2-1 in the Iowa Conference.

Up next for the Central women is a match at Loras College on Saturday. The Duhawks are 10-2 overall and 3-0 in league play.

On the men’s side, the Dutch simply overpowered the Beavers, jumping out to a 5-0 halftime advantage and cruising to a 6-0 win. The Central men’s soccer team also faces a potent Loras squad on Saturday in Dubuque.

The Duhawks were ranked seventh in the latest Division III National Soccer Coaches Association of America poll.
