Marion County Republican Greg Heartsill officially declared his candidacy for the Iowa House of Representatives at the Marion County Courthouse. About 50 people gathered on the southeast lawn to hear him speak and ask some questions. Heartsill talked about overbearing government regulations, saying that he would fight to reclaim liberty by making government smaller. He said that people are too dependent on government handouts. Heartsill added that socially, defending traditional marriage is important. He will run in the newly-formed 28th Iowa House District, which covers all of Marion County except Pella and Lake Prairie Township, much of eastern Lucas County, and parts of southern and southeastern Jasper County.
