The turf at Ken Locke Stadium will have to be renovated sometime soon. That’s the conclusion that the Knoxville School Board came to last week. Grounds Director Gary Bacus told the board that he’s been doing everything he can to keep the turf in decent shape, but the fact is that its life expectancy is almost up. The turf was last renovated in 2000, and is only expected to last 10-12 years. Bacus says that this isn’t just an issue of looks, but a safety issue as well for all the kids that play on it. If approved, work would not likely begin on the field until at least after the 2012 football season.
