High winds, dry conditions, and trash burning led to a field fire near Otley Thursday. Pella Fire Chief Doug Van Gorkom says the fire did not cause any crop damage, as the beans had already been harvested. He says the fire likely started after embers from a burn barrel were carried by high winds into the field. He says when using a burn barrel to always cover it with a lid to prevent the ashes from getting out. Sheriff Ron Goemaat suggests people monitor wind conditions and not set fires when conditions are dry and windy. If you do wish to do a controlled burn, please notify the sheriffs Office at 828-2220
