Yet another three-game sweep took the Pella Christian volleyball team another step closer to a return trip to the State Volleyball Tournament, though the Lady Eagles had to work a little harder last night to put away Interstate-35.

Pella Christian trailed much of the first set before staging a late rally to win 25-22, then put away the Roadrunners with an emphatic 25-13 win in game two, before claiming a hard-earned 25-22 win again in the third set.

Returning from missed playing time due to illness, outside hitter Jenna Horstman led the Lady Eagles in kills with 13 and in aces with three, while Jasmin Schelhaas put together an all-around strong performance that included 12 kills and 11 digs.

Other notables for Pella Christian included three blocks for Lynelle DeBruin, 23 assists for Lauren Jungling, 11 digs by Tayler Stursma, and a perfect 19-for-19 serving performance by Jora Vander Hart that also featured a pair of aces.

The victory earns Pella Christian a spot in the Class 2A Regional Finals, where they’ll take on St. Albert of Council Bluffs on Tuesday night in Stuart. The Saintes claimed a three-set victory over Clarinda in their Regional Semifinal match.
