Pella Corporation will close its manufacturing plant in Columbia, South Carolina at the end of the year. Pella Corp. spokesperson Kathy Krafka-Harkema says they’re looking at a variety of ways to keep as many people employed as possible in Pella. She says that could include offering incentives for early retirement or voluntarily leaving the local workforce. Harkema cites a drop in new home construction of more than 70% since 2006 as the reason behind the plant closure and the possible downsizing of the workforce.
