The seniors on the Pleasantville football team made their final home game – and last in a Trojan uniform – a memorable one, but unfortunately came up just short in a 52-41 slugfest with Mount Ayr.

The first quarter contained a flurry of activity that included a halfback pass from DJ Weaver to Hunter Van Haalen, but it was an interception by Weaver that fans will talk about for years to come. The senior snagged the Raider pass three yards deep in the end zone, then took it all the way to the other end of the field for a school-record 103-yard return. That score gave Pleasantville a narrow 20-19 halftime lead.

Mount Ayr turned up the running game in the third quarter, though, as the Sabotka brothers – quarterback Jacob and running back Alex – combined for four touchdowns to give the Raiders a lead they would not relinquish.

Pleasantville ends up with a 2-7 record on the season, and a 2-5 mark in Class 1A District 7. You can catch a delayed broadcast of the game on AM 1320 KNIA on Sunday Afternoon at 1:00 p.m.
