Hundreds of local Mixed Martial Arts fans gathered at the South Iowa Fairgrounds in Oskaloosa Saturday night for a card stacked with area fighters. The twelve fight Extreme Challenge 196 event featured five Knoxville fighters, four of whom walked away with wins. Of the local winners, no one was as impressive as Matt Rider. Rider came out strong landing several strikes while the two where on their feet and eventually was able to slam his opposition. He continued to land shots until the two were stood back up and with less than two minutes left in the first round, Rider pulled off a standing Guillotine choke to win the fight by submission. Also on the main card was Knoxville native Lee Sandmeier. Sandmeier looked brilliant as he picked apart James Acosta to score a victory and remain undefeated. Sandmeier used his superier wrestling to take Acosta down and dominte him with a barrage of punches. Acosta was in trouble from the beginning of the first round and was forced to give up his back due to the amount of strikes that he was taking. Once Sandmeier had his back, it didn’t take him long to sink in a rear naked choke to win via submission. In the main event of the evening, Dennis Deaver put his title on the line against Carl Wittstock. The two put on a ground fighting clinic with Deaver getting caught in a rear naked choke early in the round. After fighting through the submission attempt, Deaver was able to reverse it and wind up in Wittstocks gaurd. Deaver landed huge punches and was close to stopping the fight when Wittstock was able to catch him in a triangle choke. With the choke tightening, Deaver made one last effort to escape but while doing so, was transitioned to an armbar and finished in the first round. With the win, Wittstock becomes the new champion of the division. There was some good news for Knoxville on the undercard as Chris Robuck was able to stop Andrew Potter after a back and forth first round. Robuck slammed Potter and postured up in guard to earn the TKO win via ground and pound. Also on the undercard was a fight between Knoxville’s Adam Glover and Mike Christianson. Glover was controlled for the majority of the first round as Christianson was able to take him down early, forcing Adam to work off of his back. Down one round to zero, Glover came out quick in the second and threw a kick but it was checked by Christianson which led to a takedown. After the two were on the mat again, Christianson made a mistake and got caught in a Triangle choke. Glover then rolled him over and earned a victory via submission. It was a great night of fights in Oskaloosa, with all twelve ending by submission or knockout. There is no date or place set for the next Extreme Challenge event.
