Another very important District match-up awaits the Pella football team in Fairfield tonight, as the Little Dutch can clinch the top seed in District 7 with a win over the Trojans. Tonight the Pella defense will be assigned with the unenviable task of slowing down Fairfield quarterback Dillon Fry, who has run and thrown for nearly 2000 yards of total offense.

“You see so many more quarterbacks today that are like that – that are so hard to defend – and it creates a lot of challenges for defenses,” says Pella head football coach Jay McKinstrey.

“We’ve got to pick, are we going to stop the run or are we going to stop the pass? Some will say ‘well you’ve got to stop them both,’ and yes, you do, but at the same time, where are you going to put all of your marbles and what are we really trying to stop? If they’re going to play well and beat us, then what do we want to make them do?”

The Little Dutch are 6-1 overall and 5-0 in Class 3A District 7. Fairfield is 5-2 overall and 4-1 in the District; with their only loss coming to Oskaloosa. You can hear tonight’s game broadcast live on 92.1 fm KRLS with Eric Gotschall and Randy Sikkema providing the call, starting at 6:45 p.m.
