The Central College women’s tennis team suffered a 5-0 defeat at the hands of Wartburg College yesterday in the first round of the Iowa Conference team tournament. The closest match of the day came in doubles play, as the No. 1 tandem for the Dutch pushed the Knights into a tiebreaker before suffering a 7-3 defeat.
Wartburg kept the momentum rolling in singles action, defeating the No. 1 and No. 3 seeds for Central to take a 5-0 lead. With the victory clinched, the remaining matches were called off.
The Central women’s tennis team is 6-8 overall and continues tournament play today, taking on Simpson College in the fifth-place match. The Storm were defeated 5-1 by Cornell College yesterday.
