The Central College men’s basketball team made it a close game Saturday, but failed to overcome a low shooting percentage as it fell to Fontbonne University 68-66.

The first half was all Griffins as the Fontbonne defense held Central to just 28 points. Fontbonne took a 10-point lead into the locker room at the break. The Dutch mounted a comeback in the second half, bringing the score to an even 53-53, but were unable to slow Fontbonne in the final minutes. Central was held to 40 percent shooting from the field and just 27 percent from beyond the 3-point arc.

Guard Demarco Turner was Central’s leading scorer with 13 points, while fellow senior Brock was close behind with 11 points and four assists. Guard Jacob Winkler also had 11 points.

The Central men are now 1-1 overall and play their home opener Tuesday night against Bethany Lutheran.
