The beginning of what could be a very exciting season for the Pella Christian girls basketball team is just hours away, as the Lady Eagles prepare to hit the road for their season opener.

Pella Christian girls head basketball coach Kevin Van Maanen says while he’s aware of the attributes that PCM has, he mostly wants his team to focus on their strengths and work on getting better; rather than be concerned with what their opponent might do.

“PCM is very athletic. They’re going to be young this year, but at the same time I think we’ve got to concentrate on what we do best,” says Van Maanen.

“Play solid defense, get out in the open court and run and spread the court. I think that’s what we’ve got to focus on. [We’ll] just focus on ourselves right now and try and get better.”

Opening tip between the Lady Eagles and the Mustangs is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. tonight in Monroe.
